Well-known US burger chains bring the best American style burgers to London - reports LondonTown.com

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - June 17th, 2013 - Two American burger chains, Shake Shack and Five Guys, which have already proved hugely popular in the States, come to London in July adding to impressive number of London restaurants which offer every type of cuisine from across the world.

Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group opens its first Shake Shack restaurant in the UK, its nineteenth overall, on Friday 5th July 2013 at London’s Covent Garden occupying a large area split across three sites including a covered outdoor seating area.

It will be a short walk across the market to rival burger joint, Meat Market in Jubilee Market Hall, the burger restaurant from Yianni Papoutsis who started out with his Meat Wagon burger van. He also provides the burgers that people are prepared to queue for at Meat Liquor on London’s Welbeck Street.

The day before Shake Shack opens its doors, on Thursday 4th July 2013, fellow American burger joint Five Guys opens at 1-3 Long Acre, also in the Covent Garden area. Five Guys, which takes its name from the founding Murrell family’s five brothers, is a trendy US burger chain which has more than 1,000 restaurants in North America and counts Barack Obama among its fans.

Also recently opened, in May 2013, Porky's is bringing Memphis style BBQ to Camden. Husband and wife team Joy and Simon Brigg have even brought smokers over from Oklahoma to recreate the authentic American style of cooking they enjoyed on trips across the Atlantic.

Tommi’s, the Icelandic burger joint goes from pop-up to permanent restaurant in mid July with a new venture on Thayer Street, close to their original temporary restaurant (now closed) in Marylebone Lane. From there it’s a short three minute stroll to Patty & Bun at 54 James St, W1, which is consistently praised for its high quality burgers. It too started out as a pop-up before opening its first permanent restaurant in November 2012.

Also vying for the title of best American BBQ in London is Pitt Cue Co which started in summer 2011 with a burger van under Hungerford Bridge. Chef Tom Adams and co-founder Jamie Berger set up Pitt Cue Co in bricks and mortar on 1 Newburgh Street, just off London’s Carnaby Street in February 2012 serving barbecued beef ribs, brisket and pulled pork that has had reviewers in raptures.
