Summer has arrived in the capital, reports LondonTown.com

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - July 4th, 2013 - There's no shortage of al fresco festivals and parties in London this weekend and the largest scale event has to be British Summer Time at Hyde Park. Launching on Friday 5th July, this new event welcomes a line-up of high calibre artists to play live. Monday to Thursday offers a more intimate programme of film, music, literature and sport while Friday to Sunday boasts the big names. Following their debut performance at Glastonbury last weekend, The Rolling Stones come to London on Saturday 6th July and Saturday 13th July.

Further acts this Saturday include Palma Violets, The Temper Trap, The Vaccines, Tribes, and King Charles. Sunday 7th July sees Amelia Lily, JLS, The Saturdays, Loveable Rogues and The Beach Boys perform. Visitors travelling from outside of the capital can find a great selection of central London hotels on LondonTown.com.

Another festival taking place this weekend is Carnaby Sound. Celebrating the musical heritage of one of London's most fashionable streets, this free one-day festival sees more than fifteen bands perform in the area on Saturday 6th July. The line-up includes A*M*E, Kids in Glass Houses, James McCartney, The Carnabys and the Luminites. Plus, there will be a host of DJs, promotions, giveaways, make-overs and exhibitions in Carnaby stores. Gourmet street food will be provided by the likes of Dehesa, Cinnamon Soho, Antidote and Good Buns.

One of London's most popular food festivals, Feast, also returns this week. Moving to Brick Lane Yard, this four-day festival will bring some of London's best chefs, restaurants and market stalls to the area. Among the eateries attending will be Patty and Bun, Spuntino, Flat Iron and The Meringue Girls. Additionally, there will be live music from new bands, DJs sets, and art installations to ensure there's a treat for all the senses.

Those more interested in drinking should visit Carom in Soho this weekend for the Botanical Gin Garden. Hidden within the modern Indian restaurant, the pop up bar is comparable to an elegant country house garden and provides a calming sanctuary within central London. Guests can lounge on antique garden benches surrounded by living wall herbs and natural flora while supping on innovative cocktails created using Tanqueray gin. Budding botanists also have the chance to consult with the bartenders to create their perfect bespoke tipple. Further drinks can be enjoyed at The House of Peroni, a month-long cultural residency that celebrates a new wave of contemporary Italian culture. A raft of Italian creatives will be in attendance: Michelin-starred chefs the Costardi Brothers will set up temporary home and legendary mixologist Gerry Calabrese will concoct delicious drinks distilled from Peroni Nastro Azzurro beer.

The Henley Royal Regatta returns this week for five days of serious competing. The historic occasion has been running since 1839 and has grown from a local event to one of the biggest meetings in rowing, attracting crews of international quality. The event also forms a great excuse for a social gathering and Henley's waterside is expected to be full of thousands of visitors eating picnics and drinking Pimm's.

Part of the National Trust London Project, Fenton House hosts The Idler Garden Party on Saturday. The 17th century house in Hampstead will provide the perfect backdrop for a day away from the city and promises merry-making, philosophising and drinking. The programme includes a gardening lesson and a recital of medieval Renaissance music in the orchard, lessons in Plato and the ukulele, and the chance to learn bartitsu, the Victorian gentleman's martial art. Tea, cakes and gin will also be served and an array of stalls will sell books, produce from local artisans and anarchist magazines. For a family friendly Summer Party, visit the Little Angel Theatre in Islington on Saturday. With a theme of Carnival of Animals, children will be able to learn how the famous puppet theatre company puts on its shows, watch a parade of giant puppets and make one to take home.

Exhibitions wise, this weekend sees the return of the annual Summer Science Exhibition at The Royal Society, which gives an insight into the most exciting cutting-edge science and technology in the UK. While the Jewish Museum hosts Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait, an intimate exhibition that has been co-curated by her brother and sister-in-law and provides unprecedented access to previously unseen family photos, her record collection and stage outfits.
