(TRAVPR.COM) UK - July 8th, 2014 - A Streetcar Named Desire first graced the London stage in 1949 and now Tennessee Williams' drama will be staged by the Young Vic. Australian director Benedict Andrews brings the famous drama to life with an all-star cast.

Tennessee Williams’ 1947 play earned him the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1948. It has been adapted for film, opera, ballet and television has starred many famous actors including Marlon Brandon, Vivien Leigh, Jessica Tandy, and Jessica Lang. Even cartoon character Marge Simpson had a turn to play the heroine, Blanche DuBois. Now the famous Streetcar Named Desire returns to the London stage with another famous actress in the lead role. Gillian Anderson, made famous for her role as X Files agent, Dana Scully, stars as troubled Southern belle Blanche.

When the fragile heroine turns to her sister Stella for solace, she is confronted by Stella’s brutal and abusive husband Stanley. Broadway star Ben Foster plays Stanley and Vanessa Kirby is Stella. The play has completely sold out but the Young Vic theatre advises that day seats and returns may still be available.  The Young Vic is situated close to Waterloo Station and there are a number of London restaurants and hotels in the area for those lucky enough to get tickets for the show.

A Streetcar Named Desire is showing at the Young Vic Theatre from 23 July to 6 September 2014. Day seats and returns may be available from the theatre on the day. Visit LondonTown.com for more information.
