A HAUNTING JANUARY SEASON AT THE ALMEIDA
Industry: Events

The Turn of the Screw looks set to send shivers down theatre-goers’ spines

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - January 18th, 2013 - Henry James’ much-loved Victorian-era spook-fest is returning in a new adaptation to the London stage this January.

Adapted by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, the play is a stage version of James’ late-nineteenth-century short novel, which tells the story of children Flora and Miles and their new governess, who discovers that the children must be protected from much more than scrapes and tumbles.

Playing delicately with the audience’s imagination, The Turn of the Screw is a lesson in a classic ghost story, ratcheting up the suspicion and paranoia as the story unfolds.

In the Almeida’s revival, Lindsay Posner directs Anna Madeley as the governess. Gemma Jones plays the housekeeper, Isabella Blake, Emilia Jones and Lucy Morton share the role of Flora, and 16-year-old Laurence Belcher plays her brother Miles.

The run opens on the 18th January and continues until 16th March. The Almeida, located in Islington just off Upper Street, has been making a name for itself as an off-West End West End theatre, showcasing classic plays and star actors, as well as new writing from praised scribes like Lucy Kirkwood (NSFW, Royal Court).

Theatre fans hoping to head up to London for the show – which may well end up selling out fast, as plenty of Almeida shows end up with West End transfers – can turn to LondonTown.com for deals on hotels in London.

The Hilton Islington Hotel London, a few minutes’ walk from the Almeida, has doubles from £102 on 25th January. A little further afield, approximately fifteen minutes’ walking, is the Thistle City Barbican Hotel with doubles from £51.
