SURREAL MYSTERIES AT THE CURRIER MUSEUM OF ART WITH THE CURIOUS MAGIC OF VARUJAN BOGHOSIAN
Industry: Exhibitions

Boghosian’s evocative Surrealist work can be seen in The Curious Magic of Varujan Boghosian, on view from June 10 through September 4 at the Currier Museum of Art.

(TRAVPR.COM) USA - June 6th, 2017 - Manchester, NH – Drawing upon his witty sense of humor, extraordinary visual memory, and boundless intellectual curiosity, New Hampshire artist Varujan Boghosian uses the ordinary to create the extraordinary. His collages and assembled sculptures, made up of found objects in materials from wood and paper to metal and plastic, explore the universal human condition. Boghosian’s evocative Surrealist work can be seen in The Curious Magic of Varujan Boghosian, on view from June 10 through September 4 at the Currier Museum of Art.

“The more time I invest with Varujan’s works the more evocative they become.” Said Kurt Sundstrom, curator of the exhibition. “It is very rare indeed for a viewer to be so richly rewarded for musing with a work of art.”

Boghosian’s work challenges the viewer to look at common objects in new ways by presenting them in unexpected combinations, often referring to mythology and literature. A master draftsman, watercolorist, and sculptor, he creates works of art that are funny and provocative. This exhibition draws from the artist’s collection, the Currier’s holdings, and private collections. 60 works of art will be on view ranging from early, abstract watercolors to multi-layered collages Boghosian still creates today at age 92. The Curious Magic of Varujan Boghosian invites a dialogue between the visitor and the artist initiating the sharing of personal responses.

This exhibition is sponsored by the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation.
