MARSHFIELD STATION, NH –Considered a must-do for visitors to New England, the first mountain climbing cog railway in the world offers amazing early season fall foliage colors. Riders can choose to ride up to the highest peak in the Northeast on the first train of the day, a vintage coal-fired steam train, or on one of the eco-friendly biodiesel locomotives that run the rest of the day.  In the fall season, the Cog will run eight to ten trips per day, departing every hour on the half hour.

Driving to the Cog Railway is part of the adventure, as it is located along the White Mountain Trail,

designated a National Scenic Byway. Along the scenic drive up to the White Mountains, one can find quintessential New England towns bustling with everything from antique shops to local eateries.

Along the six-mile road to the base of Mount Washington, visitors can take pictures of waterfalls, wildlife and foliage in the White Mountain Forest.

At the Cog’s Base Station, visitors find a fascinating Cog Railway Museum, which offers a sneak peek of the new PBS Documentary, “Climbing to the Clouds”, a restaurant with indoor or outdoor seating to watch the passing trains and a gift shop. The Cog offers an impressive $10 off on each ticket on the last train of the day from September 19 through October 18.

Tickets for Cog Railway excursions can now be purchased online at www.TheCog.com. Due to the popularity of the rides, buying tickets in advance is strongly recommended. The Mount Washington Cog Railway is located on Base Road, Marshfield Station, NH, just 6 miles from Rt 302 and historic Bretton Woods, NH.
