During 2013 the country’s tourism sector opened its doors to several new hotels. This list is made up of internationally recognized brands, such as Westin, Royalton, AM Resorts, Eden Roc and Bahia Principe.
Westin Hotels
The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club was inaugurated last month as part of a strategic alliance with the Puntacana Group, the country’s most distinguished pioneer in the development of luxury tourism in the Punta Cana tourism region. The new 200-room facility, featuring ten suites overlooking the Caribbean Sea area, has a convention area with a capacity for 400 guests; a wedding section, kids club, restaurant, grill, lobby bar, cigar bar, and many other amenities that the Westin brand is known for, such as the Westin HeavenlyBed, SuperFoods and the WestinWorkout Studio.
The Royalton Blue Diamond
The all-inclusive Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts opened two new facilities in the Punta Cana complex: the Memories Splash Punta Cana (525 rooms), a family-oriented destination featuring a waterpark, and the Royalton Punta Cana (485 rooms), a family and adults-only luxury destination.
AM Resorts
The Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa became the first Breathless Resort & Spa brand to operate in the Dominican Republic. The beach-front, adults-only facility, features 750 rooms, four swimming pools, nine restaurants, a bar and restaurant, a spa & fitness centre, casino, theatre, convention centre, business centre, sports centre, tennis centre, wedding gazebo, relaxation pool, snack bar, disco and many other facilities.
Merengue
The Merengue Punta Cana Hotel opened in the “El Cortecito,” on Bavaro Beach. The 30-room hotel is not an all-inclusive facility and features a swimming pool with Jacuzzi, a pool bar, terrace bar, and wi-fi in all areas and rooms.
Eden Roc
The ultra-luxury Eden Roc at Cap Cana Boutique Hotel is the first property in the Caribbean managed by the Solaya Hotels & Resorts Company. The hotel features 34 suites, six a la carte restaurants created by world-renowned chef Gianluca de Fraschini, a full spa, beach and kids club and access to the Punta Espada golf course.
Bahia Principe
The Luxury Bahia Principe Boungaville Don Pablo Collection, situated in “Playa Nueva Romana” – on the country’s eastern region – also opened its doors in the Dominican Republic during 2013. It is an adults-only hotel, with 244 deluxe junior suites with impressive oceanfront views.
Weston
The Weston Suites hotel, located in Santo Domingo’s centrally-located 27th of February Avenue, features 94 rooms, a restaurant, bar, gymnasium, meeting rooms and casino. The facility is situated some 10-minutes walking distance from two of the city’s most important shopping malls. The Colonial City of Santo Domingo is 20 minutes by car and the Las Americas International Airport is a comfortable 30-minute away by car.
“The Rivera Azul”
The residential Rivera Blue tourism project opened its first three, three-story buildings. Each building features 75 one-two-three bedroom apartments. The complex, built at a cost of US$30 million, will be completed in three phases and will add an additional 180 apartments. The overall investment will be approximately US$100 million.
