The Catalan town of Sitges, known across Europe as the St Tropez of Spain, will once again welcome avid runners for its annual half-marathon weekend.

(TRAVPR.COM) SPAIN - January 8th, 2013 - Sitges is located near the scenic seaside city of Barcelona, but with 17 beaches of its own it needs no famous neighbours to add to its many charms.

The next Sitges Half Marathon will actually consist of two races: a 10k race and a 21k half marathon race, both of which are scheduled to take place on the morning of 13th January 2013. Racing will commence at 10.15am at Sitges' Passeig de la Ribera. 

Over 3,500 runners took part in the 2012 Sitges Half Marathon, and hopes are running high that the 2013 races may exceed this impressive total; 2012’s total was itself a large gain over 2011's attendance of 2,400.

The 10k race features a time limit of one hour 15 minutes; participants in the 21k half marathon are expected to complete the course within one additional hour of the 10k half marathon limit. Runners are provided with bags containing a shirt from the sponsors and partners of Sitges half marathon, as long as they finish within the allotted time for the version of the race in which they are competing. There will be trophies and awards for the runners finishing in the first three positions in each category.

The 2013 Sitges half marathon will be the 30th year of the race. Tradition will have the runners exploring the town mainly between the Bel Air roundabout and the Avenue Sofia. In previous years, running celebrities such as Dani Serra, Arcadi Alibes, Xavier Bonastre and Artur Peguera have been in attendance. Half marathon organisers are hopeful that the 2013 race will attract top running talent from the local area and from around the world.
