The world-famous golf course Teeth of the Dog, built by the legendary Pete Dye and ranked by Golf Magazine as number one in the Caribbean, will host the second version of the International Open Golf in the Dominican Republic (DR OPEN 2011), to take place from November 7-13 in La Romana. The event is organized by the Dominican Golf Federation.

Participants will also play at the “La Estancia” golf course, designed by PB Dye, and situated a few short minutes east of world-famous resort Casa de Campo.  “La Estancia” is a residential resort, located 10 minutes from La Romana’s International Airport and 15 minutes from the seaside resort community of Bayahibe.

Golf enthusiasts from the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Switzerland, Guadeloupe, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Italy and Peru are expected to participate in the event.

Players will be able to participate in the professional category, as well as in the Amateur A, B, C and D, and Senior A, B and C categories.  Ladies will also participate in their individual categories. There will also be a Super Senior category. The professional and Class A categories will play in the Stroke Play modality, while the rest will play in the Stableford point system.

In addition to being ranked as the number one golf course in the Caribbean by Golf Magazine, the Teeth of the Dog course – located in the world famous “Casa de Campo” resort – also occupies the 43rd slot amongst the top 100 golf courses in the world. It has also been ranked as the best golf course in the Dominican Republic by Planet Golf magazine.

Golf destination

The Dominican Republic is considered the premier golf destination in the Caribbean. Most of its 26 links have been designed by world famous pros like Pete Dye, PB Dye, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, Gary Player, Tom Fazio, Nick Faldo, Nick Price and Greg Norman. There are new facilities currently under construction in various parts of the country.
