Santa trades in Rudolf for a train

(TRAVPR.COM) USA - October 28th, 2011 - BRETTON WOODS, NH – Snow makes the holidays; as we all know from the classic song “White Christmas”. This holiday season, there is no need to dream of snow or Santa, with the new Santa Train Rides on the Mount Washington cog Railway.

There is plenty of snow on the highest Peak in the Northeast. So, why not join Santa with the kids or loved ones for a very special ride up Mount Washington?

On November 19 and 20, November 25 to 27, and December 3 to 4 families can join the Jolly Old Elf as he escorts you on a one hour round trip halfway to the summit, elevation 4100’. Santa will have gifts for the kids, pose for photos, and there will be plenty of hot chocolate and cheer in the Base Stations before and after the trip.

Santa’s other gift is an amazing panoramic view from the summit and a holiday memory no one will forget.

The fare is $33 for adults, $28 for kids. Santa trains leave at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m, only, and advance tickets are recommended.

The Mount Washington Cog Railway is a National Historic Engineering Landmark. Its first locomotive, Old Peppersass, reached the summit of Mount Washington on July 3, 1869, making it the world's first mountain climbing railroad using a toothed cogwheel to engage the rack between the rails.

Old Peppersass is on display at the Marshfield Station, and the Cog Railway Museum, which is full of memorabilia and the rich history of this pioneering railroad, is open. Admission to the museum is free.

The Peppersass Restaurant offers lunch and visitors can browse through the gift shop.
