The low cost airlines that operate in Malaga moved more than 3.2 million passengers in the terminal of Costa del Sol's capital over the first nine months of the year.

(TRAVPR.COM) SPAIN - October 19th, 2011 - The low cost airlines that operate in Malaga, accumulated 8.8% more passengers up to September than in the same period last year. The figures provided yesterday by the Institute of Touristic Studies (IET), that depend on the Industry, Tourism and Trade Ministry, reveal that these companies have moved more than 3.2 million passengers in the terminal of Costa del Sol's capital over the first nine months of the year.

This figure means that these airlines have up to four times more clients than the conventional airline, that cannot reach the amount of 900.000 passengers in the aforementioned period, reason why Malaga is the fifth airport in Spain regarding activity of these companies.

September has brought a big step forward for this statistic, as the low costs registered 5.7% more passengers with 442.000. This figure situates Malaga as the third highest activity airport in Spain on behalf of these airlines, only behind Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona.

In the whole of Andalucia, these low cost companies transported four million passengers over the first nine months of the year, which means an increase of 10.6%. In the whole country, the evolution is even bigger. The low costs moved 28.9 million passengers until September, 14% more, benefiting other related companies such as travel agencies, car hire Malaga airport and the hotel industry in general.

The Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Andalusia, Valencia and the Canary Islands all received 87.2 per cent of the low cost international arrivals last month, with inter-annual increases that reached twenty points in the Canary Islands, according to the central Government's statistics.
