(TRAVPR.COM) USA - August 18th, 2016 - Portugal’s World Heritage Sites are the focus of a new World Heritage Guide Book series with a focus on Lisbon, Sintra, Évora and Elvas. The series is part of an initiative by Turismo de Portugal (Portuguese Tourist Board) to promote itineraries that include monuments and sites classified by UNESCO as World Heritage.

This new guidebook series offers three guides: one about Lisbon, one about Sintra ,one about Évora and, finally, one about Elvas, in the Alentejo. The guides offer different themed itineraries in each of the four World Heritage sites. In Lisbon, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belém Tower are the city's most engrossing sites; in the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, the guide looks at the harmony achieved between the built and natural environment; in Évora, the guide walks us through the city centre; and, in Elvas, visitors learn about the history of a walled city located in Portugal’s border with Spain.

The guides are available in Portuguese, French and English, and can be purchased in bookstores and online from the publisher, Porto Editora. They are also available, as free apps, for iOS and Android, (https://jitt.travel/portugalworldheritage/pt). The first itinerary, featuring Sintra, may already be downloaded and the other ones will be made available soon.

The first series of the "World Heritage Guide Books", featuring the Monasteries of Batalha and Alcobaça, and the Convent of Christ, in Tomar, was dedicated to "The Heart of Portugal” ; the second series, devoted to the "North of Portugal", contains information about the historic centres of Guimarães and Porto, the cultural landscape of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro wine region, and the prehistoric cave paintings of the Vale do Côa
