INDIA TOURISM INDUSTRY GETS A MAJOR BOOST WITH THE LAUNCH OF INNOVATIVE E-VISA FACILITY

Tourism in India will see a good growth in the coming years as one of the major obstacles has been withdrawn. People from all parts of the world want to visit India but due to Visa and other constraints, most of them avoid coming to India. Countries like Sri Lanka have eased the Visa norms and because of it, there has been rise in the number of tourists coming there. The beneficiary countries in the first phase would be Russia, Brazil, Germany, Thailand, UAE, Ukraine, Jordan, Norway and Mauritius. Countries like Mexico, Kenya and Fiji are also being considered for being given the e-visa facility.

A government official has recently said that today, all the necessary arrangements, including the software for the system, are now ready and would become operational at nine international airports -- Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Goa. Tourists who want an e-visa have to apply on the designated website along with the required fees. They would be granted an electronic version of the visa within 96 hours. He has also clarified that all countries, except a few in the "prior list", would be brought into the e-visa regime over the next two years. He also said that barring a few like Pakistan, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Somalia, all the countries will be covered under the e-visa regime in phases. Currently some countries like South Korea, Japan, Finland, Singapore, New Zealand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos are enjoying the fruits of visa-on-arrival facility. But this innovative step would further strengthen the tourism industry and within a few years, then number of tourists coming to India would get doubled.
