PIONEERING MTB EXPEDITION TO SUMMIT ETHIOPIA’S HIGHEST MOUNTAIN
Industry: Adventure

Adventure travel experts Secret Compass to take first ever commercial team to summit Ras Deshan, Ethiopia's highest mountain in the SImien Ranges.

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - September 30th, 2014 - On 12 October 2014, expedition company Secret Compass will take a group of mountain bikers to Ethiopia to become the first expedition team to summit the country’s highest peak, Ras Deshan at 4,543m.

Tom Bodkin, MTB team leader and Secret Compass founder, said, “The aim of this MTB adventure is to explore the UNESCO-protected Simien Mountains and to chalk up a team world first. We’ve found no record of a commercial team summiting Ras Deshan before.

“Our international MTB team is made up of normal people who love riding their local runs and who seek to break new trails somewhere wilder. Without the crowds of Europe’s Alps or Canada’s Rockies, Ethiopia fits that bill perfectly and offers so much more besides.

“As an adventure travel company we try to push boundaries, achieving the extraordinary in the world’s wildest places.

“We go to places avoided by others due to their remoteness, post-conflict reputations or inaccessibility. We’re generally the only visitors, and the locals are always thrilled to see us.

“Fledging local economies benefit from our presence and the fact that we’re there at all often brings optimism, with the notion that their region is perceived by outsiders as being a safe and welcoming place to visit.”

Former expedition team member Mark Soares, said, “The potential for discovery and adventure on Secret Compass expeditions is hard to fathom, as if from some epic in literature. If I hadn’t experienced it with my own eyes, I might not have believed it.”

Secret Compass has upcoming adventures to destinations including Panama, Kurdistan, Madagascar, Kamchatka, Sinai, Afghanistan, Arunachal Pradesh, and Armenia. Following Ethiopia, its next MTB expedition is to Kyrgyzstan in Sept 2015.
