he airline will also expand its service from two flights to three flights per week to the Azores, and will offer a new non-stop direct flight to Lisbon. (TRAVPR.COM) USA - March 8th, 2013 -  Boston, Mass. − SATA Airlines is expanding service from Boston to Portugal this spring. Beginning in April, SATA Airlines will double weekly service to the Azores and mainland Portugal from Boston’s Logan Airport. The airline will also expand its service from two flights to three flights per week to the Azores, and will offer a new non-stop direct flight to Lisbon. All of SATA's flights to the Azores connect on to Lisbon, but this is the first direct spring flight to Portugal's capital ever offered by the airline.

SATA is the only airline offering non-stop service to the Azores from North America. The flight from Boston to São Miguel (the largest island in Azores) is just four hours on one of SATA’s fleet of Airbus A310s. Lisbon is just over an hour away. In June, SATA will expand to five flights a week to the Azores archipelago and two weekly non-stop flights to Lisbon.

The Azores is a collection of nine islands located in the Atlantic Ocean about midway between Boston and mainland Portugal. The closest point to Europe from the United States, the Azores is an autonomous region of Portugal, and just four hours by plane from Boston. The islands are becoming increasingly well-known for eco-tourism, golf, and unique European cuisine.

Lisbon is about the size of Boston and is perched on the northern bank of the Tejo River, where the river meets the Atlantic. It is the warmest and westernmost capital in Europe. Built on seven hills, visitors can and should take in panoramic views of the city by traveling to the top via elevators or funicular.

SATA has connecting flights to Lisbon, Madeira and Porto from the Azores. Inter-island flights are offered to each of the islands in the Azores as well. SATA has connected North America with the Azores and mainland Portugal for more than 37 years.
