On October 6, 2012, Maharajas’ Express’ ‘Heritage of India’ successfully embarked on its first round of the season from Mumbai’s Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus.

On September 29, 2012, Maharajas’ Express had run its first course of journey for the season 2012-13 from Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station. While all other Maharajas’ Express journeys begin from Delhi, Heritage of India is the one that starts from Mumbai. Along with Maharashtra, the Heritage of India itinerary covers different awe-inspiring destinations in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The journey lasts for an entire week and during this period the train crisscrosses through destinations like Ajanta, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Fatehpur Sikri and Agra.
The Maharajas’ Express was launched by Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in the year 2010 and since then the train is reaching new heights with its unparallel services, on board facilities and journey experiences. Just within a year of its inception, the train managed to secure the 1st runner up position in the famed Conde Nast Readers Choice Travel Award 2011 and also bagged the winner trophy of CNBC Travel Award 2010 under the category ‘Best luxury Train’.
A warm response from both domestic and international travelers has been noticed during the inaugural ceremony of the Heritage of India journey held on 6th October. On this day, the guests were offered a traditional welcome at Mumbai’s renowned hotel, Taj Mahal Palace & Towers, and then transferred to the railway station after completing the registration and check in formalities.
