Visitors flock to the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Switzerland for the Omega European Masters golf tournament scheduled to be played from 30th August to 3rd September.
(TRAVPR.COM)UK - August 29th, 2012 - The Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club has a long association with the European Masters competition, having hosted the golf tournament for the first time in 1939; since 1948 the competition has never been hosted anywhere else.
Widely considered to be the most visually breathtaking golf course on the European Tour, the Crans-sur-Sierre golf course has been the beneficiary of extensive work in recent years. In 1995 Seve Ballesteros redesigned the course in order to provide a more challenging golfing experience. Two years later, Ballesteros returned to refurbish the course once more, rebuilding the greens to restore them to perfection after seven decades of wear and tear. Due to the magnificent nature of the transformation wrought, the club changed the official name of the course from the Plan-Bramois to the Severiano Ballesteros.
The Omega European Masters is regarded as one of the most important and prestigious tournaments played on the European Tour. Previous winners have included Ballesteros himself, as well as Ernie Els from South Africa and Lee Westwood from the UK. In 2011, the number one spot went to Thomas Bjorn. The prize fund for the competition is currently set at €2 million and many of Europe's top golf professionals are planning to vie for a large slice of the pie.
Children under 16 receive free admission to the event and in addition to regular tickets, the Omega European Masters is also offering access tickets to the grandstand at the 18th hole on both Saturday and Sunday; these tickets will be available at an additional charge.
