PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR EXPLORING BHUTAN FROM 2-9 NOVEMBER 2010 WITH UMA PARO, COMO HOTELS & RESORTS
Industry: Activity Breaks

Uma Paro, COMO Hotels’ Bhutanese retreat, is offering the chance to explore the Kingdom of Bhutan, camera in hand, guided by experienced Bhutanese photographer Ugyen Wangchuk. The tour will take place this November 2-9.

(TRAVPR.COM) BHUTAN - 15th August, 2010 - Uma Paro, COMO Hotels’ Bhutanese retreat, is offering the chance to explore the Kingdom of Bhutan, camera in hand, guided by experienced Bhutanese photographer Ugyen Wangchuk. Considered one of the world’s least explored Buddhist kingdoms, Bhutan is a window on to a fast disappearing traditional way of life. From bustling markets to prayer flag-strewn mountain passes, from monks in maroon robes to ancient fortresses, Bhutan is certainly a Shangri La for photographers. November is the ideal time to explore Bhutan as monsoon clouds dissipate and the landscape snaps into sharp focus with crystal light, inky blue skies and fabulous mountain views.

This seven night trip is an in-depth exploration with guided tours each day visiting different parts of the country taking in two distinctly different valleys, Paro and Punakha. Guide and Photographer, Ugyen Wangchuk recently published his first book ‘Bhutan-Portraits and Landscapes’ and has been leading photography courses throughout his country since 2003. Each day Ugyen will help the group, up to 12 people, discover the culture, villages, temples, wildlife, history and Himalayan scenery that go to make up Bhutan.

Uma Paro is located on a 38-acre site atop of a hill overlooking the town of Paro. The 29 rooms fuse understated modernity with intricate detailing fashioned by local artisans. Far more than a luxury retreat, Uma Paro provides expertise to explore more deeply, by mountain biking and hiking. Experienced guides and challenging treks present the opportunity to experience something new in a land that time forgot. Relax at the end of the day at the resort’s COMO Shambhala Retreat, with a yoga studio, meditation area, hot stone bathhouse and an indoor pool.

Indian Explorations (www.indianexplorations.com 01993 822 443) offers 10 day ‘Bhutan Through a Lens’ from £3,360 per person. The price is based on 2 people sharing with 7 nights in Bhutan and 2 nights in Kathmandu. Flights depart from London on Qatar Airways and all transfers and activities are included.
