(TRAVPR.COM) UAE - August 14th, 2012 - Every Thursday during the hugely popular Ramadan & Eid Fair currently under way at Expo Centre Sharjah, a chef from Coral Beach Resort – Sharjah’s culinary team demonstrates his skills by preparing an array of gastronomic delights from around the world, replete with food carving, pastry decoration and salad mixing.

The weekend cooking demonstrations by five-star hotels are part of the agenda of the fair, an integral component of the Sharjah Ramadan Festival that began on July 26 and will continue till August 19. Other family attractions include games and workshops, free medical check-up, a heritage village, multi-cuisine food court, and entertainment activities on Eid days.

“We are justifiably proud of the culinary excellence of our chefs, who have consistently won recognition at competitions organised by the Emirates Culinary Guild and events like the Al Qasbah food festival. The Sharjah fair is another important showcase to highlight their skills to visitors – including tourists from the GCC and across the world – who flock the emirate to buy what they need to observe the solemn Ramadan fasting and the Eid Al Fitr festivities,” says Jean Pierre Simon, Regional General Manager, Coral Hotels & Resorts.

According to the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the fair is a major shopping, marketing, entertainment and religious event that offers a range of consumer products from China, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Syria, Turkey and the UAE. It attracted 139,246 visitors last year, 43.38% more than in 2010, boosting the emirate’s retail sector, which accounted for 13% of GDP in 2010-11.

Quoting recent research that shows the average household spending power in the UAE was $14,400 per annum last year and forecast to grow 8% this year, Simon adds, “Reports also shos that 64% of the people spend more money during Ramadan, mostly on groceries and food, but 73% say they spend more time and money on charity. This is significant, since the World Food Programme has launched its Value Card at the fair, offering a host of benefits to shoppers while raising funds for its humanitarian programs to feed the world’s hungry.”

“Ramadan is about giving and sharing and Eid celebrates togetherness of families and friends. These values are central to our functioning as a socially conscious business in the hospitality sector. We do not spare any effort in sharing our diverse facilities with the community and youth, whether for sports or other social activities,” he points out.

The Coral Beach Resort - Sharjah, a popular destination for business and leisure travellers looking for a quiet retreat, has consciously created an environment to foster health, wellness and sport for families and children, its facilities including a state-of-the-art fitness centre, outdoor swimming pools and tennis, badminton and volleyball courts, apart from children’s play and leisure facilities.
