Discover Hawaii Tours introduces the Shaka Summer Photo Contest with help of local sponsors

(TRAVPR.COM) USA - July 5th, 2012 - HONOLULU, HI (July 5th, 2012) — Smile for the camera and say “shaka!” Facebook users are invited to submit their picture in the Shaka Summer Photo Contest, recently launched by Discover Hawaii Tours on its Facebook Page. The Honolulu-based tour operator is asking users to submit a photo of themselves doing a “shaka” this summer for a chance to win over $150 in prizes each from four local businesses. The deadline to enter is August 10, 2012.

“We want to celebrate the Hawaii lifestyle in a fun, engaging way.  What better way than a Facebook photo contest involving Hawaii-loving fans and local businesses?” said Eagle Strayhorn, Vice President of Online Marketing at Discover Hawaii Tours.

Photo submissions are accepted now through August 10 on shakasummer.com or the company’s Facebook Page at facebook.com/DiscoverHawaiiTours. After the submission deadline, Facebook users can vote on their favorite photos between August 11-24. Then, Discover Hawaii Tours will select four winners from the 10 photos with the most votes.

Winners will receive gifts from Manoa Chocolate, a sustainable chocolate factory in Kailua; Big Island Bees, a family business since 1971 making raw, artisanal honey; Kimo Bean, a small-batch coffee roaster with cafes in Waikiki and on the Big Island; and Maui Soap Company, a family business in Keokea making natural bath and body products.

Founded in 1995, Discover Hawaii Tours joined the social media world in 2009. Experiencing exponential growth in its Facebook fanbase—up from 16,000 Likes in March 2012—the tour operator decided to launch a social media contest to engage and reward its followers.
