Destination: Manchester, NH for Frank Lloyd Wright Fans
(TRAVPR.COM) USA - June 8th, 2012 - Manchester, NH – There’s a lot going on this summer in the galleries and beyond at the Currier Museum of Art. The Currier’s special exhibition programs offer visitors the opportunity to experience paintings by Eric Aho of Saxtons River, Vermont, an immersive installation by Boston’s Cristi Rinklin, and a studio craft display that celebrates New Hampshire’s role in bringing international attention to the art of craft. The Currier’s collection of European and American art is also on view, including the largest object in the collection: the 1950 Zimmerman House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
The Zimmerman House is the only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home open to the public in New England; it is also one of only a few Wright buildings owned and operated by an art museum. All Zimmerman House tours depart from the Currier Museum of Art, 150 Ash Street, Manchester, NH.
Wright (1867-1959) designed the house, the interiors, all the furniture, the gardens, and even the mailbox. In 1979 the building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Dr. and Mrs. Zimmerman, the original owners who lived in the house for 36 years, left the property to the Currier Museum of Art in 1988. In 1990 the house and grounds were opened so that visitors could enjoy glimpses of a private world from the 1950s and 1960s, including the Zimmermans’ personal collection of modern art, pottery and sculpture.
Public tours of the Zimmerman House are scheduled Thursdays through Mondays at 11:30 am and 2 pm. The Currier also offers the following other events for Wright fans this summer:
