Grounded Travel is a website dedicated to overland, flightless travel information. The site contains detailed information, regularly updated by the Grounded Travel community, on overland routes and journeys throughout the world by rail, road and sea.

(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - 31st May 2010 - The website is committed to providing up-to-date, relevant information to those who wish to enjoy the experiences offered by overland travel, or who are looking for sustainable alternatives to traditional air travel.

Visitors are invited to search for specific destinations, routes or journeys in order to find the travel information they are looking for. The information on the website is not limited to popular overland routes, but also those which are a little more unusual; the path less trodden.

“One of Grounded Travel’s unique attributes is the fact that all content is added and maintained by members of the public, whether they are hardened travellers, business people, or just those with an interest in a particular overland route. This should help to maintain the relevance, diversity and accuracy of all the information contained on the site,” says the website’s creator Ed Povey.

Since its initial launch, the website has undergone a complete transformation, now providing easy to use, accessible information to the travelling public. The site’s content is licensed under a Creative Commons license, to allow its information to be shared across the internet; furthering the site’s goals of promoting sustainable and enjoyable alternatives to air travel.

Grounded Travel was originally launched in 2008 by a couple from London, England. Both believe that there are common misconceptions relating to the time and costs associated with flightless travel, and hope that Grounded Travel will assist with the promotion of overland travel not only as a sustainable travel alternative, but also a more enjoyable way to experience the journey as well as the destination.
