Birmingham is the first city to host a new touring exhibition of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci.

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - January 18th, 2012 - Art lovers can see a selection of works by Leonardo da Vinci in Birmingham this month, as the city is hosting a special free exhibition to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Running at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BMAG) from Friday January 13th to Sunday March 25th, the display features drawings done by the Renaissance master in pen and ink, red and black chalks, and metalpoint.

Ten Drawings by Leonardo da Vinci is an exhibition that showcases the remarkable scope of the artist's knowledge and interests, with his subjects ranging from engineering and botany to mapmaking, hydraulics and anatomy.

The artworks, which have been selected from the Royal Collection, are due to tour the country this year as part of the Jubilee celebrations.

Birmingham will be the first city to host the exhibition, followed by galleries in Bristol, Belfast, Dundee and Hull.

It is completely free to attend, although visitors have been warned that queuing may be necessary due to the anticipated high demand.

BMAG is located in a Grade II listed building in the city centre, with more than 40 galleries showcasing a variety of collections.
