DirectRooms.com is letting the public know about African Utility Week, an exhibition that takes place from the 21st to the 24th of February 2012 at the Durban International Convention Centre.

(TRAVPR.COM) THAILAND - January 16th, 2012 - This event is the largest utility exhibition in Africa, and is geared toward offering ways that utility owners can maximize their potential revenue, particularly using renewable energy.

In general, there are five different conferences happening under the umbrella of this event. There is a conference devoted solely to metering and billing, which is run by CRM Africa; a conference to do with smart grids, held by Transmission and Distribution Africa; a conference held by Generation Africa, an organization that is focused on youth and community, as well as two other conferences run by Renewable Energy Africa and Water Utilities Africa. The particular topics of the last three conferences have not yet been disclosed.

This event includes panel discussions, presentations made by notable speakers, and examinations of case studies involving African utilities. There are full-day workshops and seminars available, as well.

Rather than proposing radical solutions, the goal of this conference is to help people to make utilities more profitable by optimising the infrastructure that they already have in place. Issues such as the electrification of rural areas and how water access can be improved are to be discussed by experts at this event.

There are 150 exhibitors in total at this event, and generally around 1500 participants and visitors attend. There are 100 speakers from within the industry at this exhibition.

For visitors to this event from out of town, a Port Douglas hotel is the way to stay close to the venue. This event draws quite a few visitors, so it may be advisable to make reservations well in advance. The accommodation near the venue will go especially quickly.
