ADRENALIN RUSH OF BREAKING POWDER WITH FAMILY CONTINUES ON MIDDLE FORK OF IDAHO’S SALMON RIVER ON FAR AND AWAY ADVENTURES’ 2012 RAFTING HOLIDAYS
Industry: Adventure

As with the rewards that come with skiing together during an annual winter gathering, Far and Away Adventures’ summer river thrills provide another seasonal escape that binds adventurous families in a way only shared participation in active recreation can.

(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - January 6th, 2012 - SUN VALLEY, ID – The adrenalin rush that comes with the shared experience of breaking powder with family doesn’t have to disappear with the snow, nor do opportunities for creating family legends in the wilderness.

The thrill and bonding continue on Class IV+ rapids on 100 miles of the Middle Fork of Idaho’s Salmon River. Here the same constellations that hover over a skiing family basking in alpenglow do their seasonal shifts over the River of No Return Wilderness after a day on the most pristine, free-flowing river system in the Lower 48.

Scheduled six day/five night small group departures in 2012 for up to 22 guests are May 28, June 6, 15, 24, July 2, 10, Aug. 3, 11, 19, 27 and Sept. 6, 9 and 14. The per person rate is from $2,750 adult; and from $2,450 for ages 5 to 17.  Private charter trips are a specialty and can be arranged.

“Show me a family who skis, and I’ll show you a family who gets turned on with river rafting too,” says Steve Lentz who, with his wife Annie Lentz, for over 30 years has transformed river rafting culture into a five-star experience attracting earthling’s stars such as Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Tom Ford and Dennis Miller.  As good powder is to skiing, the clear waters of the Middle Fork provide the lifeblood of their company, Far and Away Adventures that is accepting reservations now for six-day rafting holidays that begin in late May and end in late September.

“As with the rewards that come with skiing or boarding together during an annual winter gathering, rafting’s river thrills provide another seasonal escape that binds adventurous families in a way only shared participation in active recreation can. The powerful experiences create family stories to be recounted throughout life,” explains Lentz.

The way Far and Away merges wilderness adventure with unexpected luxury in the field also accounts for some great vacation tales.

“After a day of camaraderie on the river our guests are treated to dinners of locally sourced ingredients, mostly organic, washed down by fruit drinks, wines and beers. Congenial hosts and civilized amenities are necessarily part of the overall experience,” says Lentz.

Just as concierges assist ski families to and from the slopes, adventure guides set up and break down five-star camps along the river. They prepare and serve, among others, organically raised Kobe Wagyu Beef on pre-heated stoneware atop linen-draped tables lit by candlelight while pouring into crystal stemware wines selected from organic and small-batch wineries. The guides also arrange solar-generated hot water for showers, and state-of-art tents with elevated beds, flannel bedding, carpets and nightstands.

Along with a “leave no trace” ethic, Far and Away Adventures offers interpretation of the rich Native American history and heritage in the Salmon River Basin. Numerous artifacts are evidence that humans have long been a component of the wilderness. Remnants of the Shoshone and Nez Perce Indian occupations, journals of early fur trappers and missionaries, and artifacts from early miner and homestead settlements all constitute the rich human fabric of the region.  A safari-style journal and guidebook goes to each guest encouraging them to track, among others, Rocky Mountain elk sightings, native wildflowers and birds.

Far and Away Adventures has been sharing the excitement of paddling with adventuresome guests since 1980. Simply, the wonders of nature and those created by Far and Away Adventures for guests plying these and other privileged waters create a new category for those who seek experiences above and beyond the ordinary. Far and Away Adventures’ guests are moved beyond world-class into a universe where luxury and wilderness blend marvelously together.
