DELTA UPGRADES PRODUCT OFFERING FOR CUSTOMERS DEPARTING NIGERIA

New protocol service at Lagos Airport and Full Flat-bed seat from Abuja

(TRAVPR.COM) NIGERIA - December 8th, 2011 - Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) announced a series of product upgrades for the Nigerian market.  Delta will roll out a new full flat-bed BusinessElite seat on flights between Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport and New York-JFK, via Accra, Ghana.  In addition, Delta is introducing a new dedicated Delta protocol service at Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport.  The improvements are part of its ongoing plan to invest more than $2 billion in enhanced global products, services and airport facilities through to 2013.

New seat on new service

The upgraded seats will be available on Delta’s Abuja service effective15 December. Customers flying in BusinessElite will enjoy 77-inch, 180-degree full-flat beds in a one-two-one configuration, which allows each customer direct aisle access and enhanced privacy.  Delta is enhancing its onboard product on more than 150 aircraft to offer full flat-bed seating in BusinessElite on all international widebody flights.    

Delta recently announced that effective 1 December* it will launch nonstop service between Abuja and Accra in co-operation with Air Nigeria.  The new Delta service which will feature the upgraded seat will provide more travel options for Delta’s customers. 

“We are delighted to be working with Air Nigeria and with their support offer nonstop service between Nigeria and Ghana,” said Bobby Bryan, sales manager West and East Africa. “The new service will feature our new business product which optimises each passenger’s space, giving them privacy to work or relax in order to arrive at their destination ready for a day’s business.”

Through the hubs in Atlanta and New York-JFK, Delta offers an unsurpassed network of hundreds of convenient onward connections to popular destinations for Nigerian travellers such as Atlanta, New York, Washington, Los Angeles, and Houston.

Airport Concierge

Meanwhile, BusinessElite customers departing Lagos will be able to take advantage of a new protocol service.  The airport concierge service offers a personal escort for its business customers through check-in, customs and immigration, lounge pick up and luggage assistance.

Bryan continued, “Delta’s frequent business travellers tell us that they want a seamless experience when they travel.  With over 50,000 passengers carried by Delta between Lagos and the United States this year, our protocol service ensures that our business customers will enjoy a smooth transit through the entire airport experience.”

Delta now operates service to six African cities in five countries, having grown from 22 weekly departures to and from Africa in December 2006 to more than 44 weekly departures in winter 2011.
