With comScore Video Metrix announcing that more than 168 million U.S. Internet users watched nearly 26 billion videos online during September 2009, Mark Scriven, owner of vacation rental video portal HolidayRental.tv, believes that the time has come for travel marketers to take online video marketing more seriously.

(TRAVPR.COM) London, UK - 3rd November, 2009 - The ComScore survey suggests that more Americans are now watching online videos each month than watch the Super Bowl once a year. YouTube accounted for close to 40 percent of the 26 billion videos viewed during September and remains the market leader by a significant margin.

"The pace of increase in the market penetration of internet video sites like YouTube is staggering" says Mark Scriven, owner of vacation rental video portal HolidayRental.tv. "With 84.8% of the total U.S. Internet audience viewing an online video in during September, no serious online marketer can afford to ignore this platform. Online video is a great medium for promoting travel products like vacation rentals and I expect to see a much greater uptake by travel business in the coming months."

The ComScore survey also confirms YouTube as the world's 2^nd largest search engine after Google with 3.5 billion expanded search queries. This compares to Yahoo with 2.7 billion and Bing with 1.2 billion.

"The fact is, if you don't have a promotional video uploaded on YouTube, your business will have no exposure on the world's 2^nd biggest search engine and you will also miss out on millions of video searches made each month on Google. I'd hate to have to explain that one to my boss," says Scriven.
